FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
On June 25, 1899, the congregation was organized, two years after the
town of Roanoke Rapids received its charter. The congregation has a
rich heritage of worship and ministry in the community and looks with
excitement to the future!
The First Presbyterian Church seeks to follow the teaching of Jesus
Christ by expressing our love through worship, discipleship, fellowship,
congregational care, and mission.
“Christ calls the Church into being, giving it all that is necessary for
its mission to the world, for its building up, and for its service to
God. Christ is present with the Church in both Spirit and Word. It
belongs to Christ alone, to teach, to call, and to use the Church as he
wills, exercising his authority by the ministry of women and men for the
establishment and extension of his Kingdom”
(Book of Order, G-1.0100.b)

A
FEW WORDS FROM OUR INTERIM-PASTOR
Hello and Welcome! We are
delighted that you decided to take a look at us. We know making a
decision about where you worship, where you are nurtured as a disciple,
and where you have fellowship and fun is one that can take some time, so
please visit with us often and as much as you want. Also, if you have
questions about what this church believes, how we make decisions, where
to find the playground or water fountain or anything at all, we want to
make certain you get the answers you need, so don’t hesitate to call or
inquire.
This community of faith is excited about learning, growing and serving
Jesus Christ. Here, you will find the young and young at heart, singles
and families with few or many, and all who are deeply committed to being
a community of faith that prays, laughs, serves, struggles, and loves
Jesus Christ, one another and the community of Roanoke Rapids.
If I can answer questions or serve you in some other way, please call
the church office (537-4018) or drop by and visit.
(Tues.-Thurs. 9-1; Monday by appt.)
Rejoice!
Rev.
Jane A. Love, Interim Pastor
Note: First Presbyterian provides
ample parking for the physically handicapped and is equipped with a
handicap ramp to the sanctuary.
Methods for Joining the
Presbyterian Church
“The incarnation of God in life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
gives to the church not only its mission but also its understanding of
the membership. One becomes an active member of the church through
faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and acceptance of his Lordship in all
life. Baptism and a public profession of faith in Jesus as Lord are the
visible signs of entrance into the active membership of the church.” (Book
of Order, G-5.0100a)
Individuals may become a member
of First Presbyterian Church by one of the following methods:
Profession of Faith: A person
who has never been a member of any Christian church, or who has been
baptized but never officially “joined” a church, makes a profession of
faith in Jesus Christ.
Certificate of Transfer: A
person who is a member of another Christian church and wishes to unite
with First Presbyterian may request that we write for his or her letter
of transfer.
Reaffirmation of Faith: Some
churches do not transfer members. A person who is a member of one of
these churches and wishes to join First Presbyterian will be asked to
reaffirm his or her faith in Jesus Christ. No “rebaptism” is required.
Affiliate
Membership: A person who is a
member of another Presbyterian church but who will only temporarily be
in the Roanoke Rapids area may use this category. An affiliate is
officially connected to First Presbyterian for a period of one year
while maintaining membership in her or his present church. The
affiliate relationship may be renewed.
Please contact the minister to talk
about joining this church.
