Last week we traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC for both the annual NC
American Tree Farm meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and
Friday we attended the annual NC Forestry Association meeting. We were
treated very special at both groups. In Alice's words, "We were treated
like royalty". Alice and I are still overwhelmed by the week and our
presentation at both associational meetings as 2009 NC Tree Farmers of
the Year. During the presentation by Dr. Bob and Jean Cooper, the 2008
National Tree Farmers of the Year, we were pleased that daddy, Phillip,
Ben and Will were recognized in regard to their help, encouragement and
partnership in relation to our family operation. It was truly presented
as a family accomplishment. Jean, shown in the attached photo,
presented a photo poster as she described our family and our interests.
After the award was presented, I was able to share with the group our
forestry and wildlife experience, our appreciation of those who have
been instrumental in assisting us, and our belief that God has blessed
us and placed us in a position to be responsible managers of a small
section of His land. We received a standing ovation which was a very
humbling experience for us. We were placed in nomination for the
Southern Regional Tree Farmers of the Year..... so keep your fingers
crossed!.
