A Message from the Moderator
Still Easter?
So, how are you enjoying your Easter season? We
sometimes forget that Easter goes on for much longer than Lent, and a
great deal longer than just one day. The Easter season gives us
opportunity to rejoice and to reflect, to prayerfully prepare for
Pentecost and for this Resurrection life won for us in Christ’s
resurrection from the dead. Perhaps you have finished the Easter candy,
and are gearing up for the rest of the Spring. Maybe family vacation
plans are the next big thing. You probably are mostly thinking of Easter
in the past tense. And, if you’re like most, you’re not really spending
much time thinking of Pentecost. We sometimes let Pentecost come and go
without much thought.
Paul declares that if anyone is in Christ, there
is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come. Nowhere is this
more evident than in the telling of the Apostles’ stories in Acts.
Suddenly, Peter, who always rushes into things impulsively, who often
says the wrong things, is preaching sermons after which thousands come
to faith in Jesus, and leading the early Church as it begins to spread
across the world of the Roman Empire. Other apostles about whom we knew
so little suddenly are spreading the Good News of Jesus life, death, and
resurrection, and are planting churches, going into unknown and
unfamiliar (not to mention uncomfortable) places, doing remarkable
things. Church tradition even holds that Thomas, the Twin (mostly known
as the Doubter—but I’m hesitant to stress that with him; Thomas was
really remarkable), made it all the way to India. There are churches
there that trace their lineage to the first-century apostle. What caused
this big change in the very ones who on Easter night were hiding behind
locked doors? Two great promises of God were kept: first, Christ is
indeed risen from the dead and is alive and reigns forever; second, the
Holy Spirit was sent, as promised, and
lives were utterly transformed. Jesus had told
the Twelve that it would be better for Him to go, so that He could send
the Spirit, and while that was incredibly hard to believe at the time,
there was no mistaking that the Holy Spirit was and is able to transform
people so entirely that we find that with God, nothing is impossible.
So, now how do you plan to spend your Easter season? This is a time for
feasting and rejoicing—Christ is risen from the dead! It is also a
wonderful time for preparing ourselves not only to celebrate
Pentecost—the festival at which the Holy Spirit was sent—but also to
celebrate the working of the Holy Spirit in the Church. For God has not
left us alone, but sends us the Spirit—the Counselor.
So, now how do you plan to spend your Easter

This is a time for feasting and rejoicing—Christ

ourselves not only to celebrate Pentecost—the festival at which the Holy
Spirit was sent—but also to celebrate the working of the Holy Spirit in
the Church. For God has not left us alone, but sends us the Spirit—the
Counselor, Advocate, Paraclete, Comforter, Helper—so that we might be
built up into the Body of Christ, made into the family of God, united in
the love of God in Christ Jesus. “If God is for us, who can be against
in the Spirit to be God-for-us. Let us rejoice together in this
Resurrection life held out for us in Jesus Christ. Let us rejoice
together in the Spirit-filled life we are called to live today.
Happy Easter, and Happy and
Blessed Pentecost!

SESSION HAS APPROVED THE REPLACEMENT OF WINDOWS
IN THE LOY BUILDING. THE CURRENT ONES ARE DETERIORATING, REQUIRE A LOT
OF MAINTENANCE AND ARE NOT ENERGY EFFICIENT. WE BELIEVE THEY ARE THE
ORIGINAL ONES INSTALLED WHEN THE BUILDING WAS BUILT.
WE HAVE A BID TO REPLACE THE 13 WOODEN FRAMED WINDOWS WITH A HIGH
QUALITY, WHITE VINYL FRAME, CLEAR GLASS, FULLY SCREENED, DOUBLE LOCKS,
HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY RATING, WITH A SCULPTURED GRID IN THE CENTER OF
THE DOUBLE PANE WINDOW. THE COST IS VERY REASONABLE AT $365 PER WINDOW.
