In Touch -- March 2007

WEEKLY E-MAIL PLANNING CALENDAR

This calendar is currently being sent to 39 church members. Please give your e-mail address to Bob Pearce (252-533-0650 or rgpearce@charter.net) if you would like to be included on the mailing list.

The church internet connection has recently been upgraded from NuNet dial-up (nni.com nee 3rddoor.com) to Embarq (nee Sprint) DSL broadband which has caused some of our e-mail addresses to change. Our web site www.fpcrr.com and associated e-mail addresses minister@fpcff.com and office@fpcrr.com have not changed. These addresses are listed on the bulletin back cover, the newsletter back cover, ww.fpcrr.com and our letterhead. I recommend you use these addresses when communicating with the church.

Please delete the old NuNet e-mail addresses davidmin@nni.com and leenaesec@nni.com from your address book since these old e-mail addresses will not work much longer. We have arranged with NuNet (for $10 per quarter) to forward any messages sent to these old addresses to our new e-mail address for a short period until the message traffic declines.

Our new e-mail addresses with Embarq are fpcrroffice@earthlink.net for the office and fpcrrminister@earthlink.net for our (next) minister. Since these Embarq e-mail addresses may change in a few months when EMBARQ changes from EarthLink to their own e-mail system and if (when) we change to yet another internet service provider, I recommend you use minister@fpcrr.com and office@fpcrr.com which should not change for a long time. The Lenten Lunch is scheduled for our church to host on March 28th. We will need a lot of help. The Boy Scouts and men are putting the tables up and breaking them down. We need everyone who can possibly physically be there to help. This is not hard but it does take a good number of folks to prepare, serve, and clean up. Please volunteer (535-2726) or say “YES” when asked to help. Please help with this tradition, and thanks to everyone who works on this event year after year.

CELEBRATING THE GIFTS OF WOMEN

Fanny Crosby
American Hymnist

Fanny Crosby (1820-1915) was an American lyricist, best known for writing the texts of Protestant Hymns. She was blinded at six weeks old, lost her father when she was one year old, and was raised by her mother and grandmother who raised her in Bible studies. Because of her blindness, she memorized long passages from the Bible, including all four gospels. Despite her blindness and hardships, she wrote over 8,000 hymns! She had written the lyrics for so many hymns, that publishers of hymnals were reluctant to use her name too often, and she had over 100 pseudonyms. This gifted woman gave us such hymn favorites as “Blessed Assurance,” Near the Cross” and “To God Be the Glory.” The choir will be singing a medley of her songs on Sunday, March 4th as we celebrate the gifts of women. As you listen to Fanny Crosby’s words to the songs, you will hopefully be inspired by the faith of such a woman that did not let the burdens of her life extinguish her praise for God.

WOMEN & YOUTH WORK TOGETHER

The Women of the Church joined the youth on Sunday, January 28th to sort, size, and hang clothes for the Roanoke Rapids clothes closet at Medlin School. This is an important local ministry project. If any women (or men) are interested in helping with the youth with this project again in the future, please contact Karen Silva.
