The
Christian Education Committee is a session committee, and its
chairman and vice chairman are to be members of the session. The
committee should have a minimum membership of 15 and may have
representatives from the session, board of deacons and at-large church
members.
The general
responsibilities of the committee are the oversight, supervision and
development of church school, adult education, youth ministry, Vacation
Bible School, church library and teacher training courses. Also, provide
fellowship opportunities through retreats and support church organizations
and programs. The goal of the committee is to provide a diversity of
learning experiences for all ages of the congregation that they may grow
in personal faith and Biblical understanding. At the beginning of the year
the committee should evaluate work done toward goals set the previous year
and set new goals.
The committee is to be
organized into subcommittees with the following responsibilities:
1. Church School
-
Recruit
persons to serve as staff and teachers for the church school.
Recommend those recruited to the Session for approval along with the
church school curriculum and schedule.

Procure
study materials and supplies for the church school within budget
constraints.

Maintain
attendance and offering records for the church school.

Provide
support as may be needed to the staff and teachers to make the church
school a successful program.

Plan
and carry out special programs for Rally Day, Advent, and retreats,
and provide periodic intergenerational meetings of the church school
with the congregation.
2. Youth Ministry
-
Recruit
persons to serve as leaders for the Senior Highs, Pioneers and
Presbykids, and recommend those recruited to the session for approval.

Provide
support as needed for youth ministry programs.

Promote
youth attendance to Presbytery’s camps and send representatives to
Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly events.
3. Vacation Bible School
-
Recruit
persons to serve as staff and teachers for Vacation Bible School.
Recommend those recruited to the session for approval along with the
curriculum and schedule.

Procure
materials and supplies for Vacation Bible School within budget
constraints.

Provide
support as needed for the Vacation Bible School program..
4. Training
-
Oversee
the annual Christian Enrichment Lecture Series
-
Provide
special training for church school teachers, youth advisors and other
Christian Education staff.

Promote
special adult education programs and seminars such as Kerygma.
5.
Library
-
Oversee
the church library. Seek
new additions to the library and promote its use.
6. Preschool Program
-
Serve
as liaison between the Preschool staff and the session.
Appoint one elder and one deacon to serve on the Preschool
board of directors.
7. Support for Special
Organizations
-
Provide
support and encouragement to the Singles Group, Men’s
Breakfast Group, New Couples Group and Mother’s
Morning Out Group.

The
Facilities Committee has the oversight of guidelines for
facilities use by special organizations. and any question concerning
the use of facilities by such organization should be reviewed with
this committee.
