“Christian
worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune
God. In worship the people of God acknowledge God present in the world and in
their lives. As they respond to God’s claim and redemptive action in Jesus
Christ, believers are transformed and renewed. In worship the faithful offer
themselves to God and are equipped for God’s service in the World.”
(Book of Order, W-1.1001)
SUNDAY WORSHIP
Worship is held each Sunday at 11:00 A.M. A nursery is provided for young
children. The Lord’s Supper is observed quarterly and also on Maundy Thursday,
Easter Sunday and Christmas Eve.
CHILDREN’S WORSHIP
Children’s Worship is held every Sunday during the school year for children
Pre-K through 2nd grade. Children leave the sanctuary after the Children’s
Message for a program directed by dedicated volunteers.
ECUMENICAL SERVICES
During Lent, First Presbyterian Church participates in a series of noontime
worship services with St. John the Baptist Catholic, First United Methodist,
Stanley White Presbyterian, Rosemary United Methodist and Rosemary Baptist
churches. We participate in a Thanksgiving Eve worship service with St. John the
Baptist Catholic, All Saints Episcopal, and First United Methodist churches.
CHANCEL CHOIR
“To lead the congregation in the singing of prayer is a primary
role of the choir and other musicians. They also may pray on behalf of the
congregation with introits, responses, and other musical forms. Instrumental
music may be a form of prayer since words are not essential to prayer. In
worship, music is not to be for entertainment or artistic display. Care should
be taken that it not be used merely as a cover for silence. Music as prayer is
to be a worthy offering to God on behalf of the people.”
(Book of Order, W-2.1004)
The
Chancel Choir, which provides an important part of worship, meets each Wednesday
evening at 7:45 P.M. and Sunday morning at 10:30 A.M. for practice. You are
cordially invited to join this energetic group.
CHILDREN’S CHOIR
The Children’s Choir meets during the school year and includes children four
years old through 3rd grade. The choir meets for one hour each week for singing,
Bible stories, a snack and fun. Day and time are determined at the beginning of
the choir year.
The Children’s
Choir sings during the morning worship service two to three times each year,
during the Christmas season, Palm Sunday or Mother’s Day.
