According
to the Gospel of Mark, our Lord summarized the whole Law with two commandments,
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind and with all your strength. Love your neighbor as yourself. There is
no commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:30-31
Therefore,
we seek to obey these commandments by expressing our love through worship,
discipleship, stewardship, fellowship and mission.
-Worship is
the expression of our Thanksgiving and glory to God that is central to the life
of First Presbyterian Church. In worship we strive to glorify God through Word
and Sacrament, music, and special services.
-Discipleship is the expression of God’s love in our daily lives. First
Presbyterian Church provides for the spiritual growth of our church family
through a strong nurturing Christian Education program of teaching, Bible study
and ministry. Together we strive to increase our knowledge of God and our faith
in Jesus Christ.
-Stewardship is the expression of God’s children for God’s good gifts in all of
life. First Presbyterian Church provides members encouragement and opportunities
for growth and development in the stewardship of their time, talents and
financial resources.
-Fellowship
is the expression of God’s abiding love to all people. The members of First
Presbyterian Church demonstrate a supportive family atmosphere, which offers
care and Christian fellowship to all of God’s children in our changing and
challenging world. Together we celebrate the gift of our life together.
-Mission is
the expression of God’s people at work for Christ in the world. The members of
First Presbyterian Church pray for, serve and financially support mission
projects, disaster relief and the needs of others in the local, national and
global community.
This
Mission Statement was approved and adopted by the Session of First Presbyterian
Church on June 20, 2004
