Luke
2: 8-20
The King of Love was born into such
humble circumstances and His birth was announced to poor shepherds.
Yet, these first receivers of the most glorious gift of God, lowly as
these shepherds may have been in terms of social status, were the first
mortals to hear the most incredible music of all time—the angels
heralding the birth of the Messiah! What a glorious sight and sound
that must have been! I doubt that even today’s IMAX theatres, with
incredible illusions and stereophonic sound, could even touch the
magnificence of this moment. Is that sight and sound from heaven what
prompted the shepherds to go so immediately to see the baby Jesus? Were
the shepherds disappointed when they found their king as a baby in
“swaddling clothes, lying in a manger?” Not at all! The Bible says
that that the shepherds were astounded and marveled at what they saw,
and that they returned glorifying God!
Prayer: Lord, let me see the
glory of your magnificence, not only in your glorious creations of sight
and sound which are so abundant during this season, but also let me see
your love and purpose in humble beginnings and in all of your people.
